Apella is certainly the most famous beach in Karpathos island, visited by thousands of tourists every summer.
Apella beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Aegean Sea, several times was ranked among the best 10 beaches in Greece. The beach is located about 20 km north of Pigadia, and not difficult to reach by car or motorbike. To the delight of many, boat excursions also depart from the harbour of Pigadia. Despite the easy access and its popularity, it is always quiet and not much crowded.
The scenery of Apella is amazing, the beach is surrounded by high cliffs and mountains, giant rocks, and lush vegetation. There are several pines and tamarisk trees on the beach, offering their valuable shade The water is incredibly clean here, with emerald and turquise sea colors. The marine life in the seabed is significant, Apella beach is one of the best places in Karpathos for diving and snorkeling. The area is well protected from the winds, so don't be afraid from the strong gales.
The beach is organized, there are many parasols and sunbeds, and there is a tavern near to the entrance, that sells food and cold drinks. The parking site is a small area, which becomes full in the morning, and than the most of the cars and bikes are parking next to the narrow road.
On the southern site of Apella beach there is a small secluded cove, hidden by from the crowds. The only way to reach this tiny beach is a narrow path that leads on the southern hillside.
